The Office of Inspector General is responsible for assisting the Secretary in making management decisions relative to the Department of Transportation’s operations by conducting periodic reviews of the Department’s programs for compliance with established procedures, regulations, and guidelines and by submitting recommendations for improvements to enable more efficient and effective operations.

  • Monitor the department's administrative activities through periodic review and appraisal of accounting, administrative, and operational controls.
  • Determine whether financial operations were conducted properly and that financial grant reports and claims were accurate and valid.
  • Determine if applicable laws, regulations, and administrative requirements were observed.
  • Determine if resources were managed efficiently and effectively.
  • Determine if goals and objectives were substantially achieved.
  • Review construction project documentation for compliance with federal requirements.
  • Conduct special investigations of alleged infractions of state law or departmental policy.
  • Perform special projects and duties as assigned by the Secretary.
