The mission of KDOT’s Public Involvement (PI) team is to foster effective two-way communication, facilitate citizen participation and help KDOT and its customers work together to fulfill KDOT’s mission.

Meaningful public involvement is a collaborative process that proactively seeks full representation from the community, and considers public comments and feedback while developing a project program or plan.

Public Involvement Mission

Public involvement is not a single event but a series of activities and actions over the lifespan of a project that both obtains input and keeps the public informed.

What public involvement does:

  • Collaborates with KDOT staff and Project Management Consultants to receive public input on KDOT projects, programs and plans.
  • Develops community engagement plans, manages their implementation, and reports progress.
  • Deploys an adaptive public involvement process for KDOT.
  • Provides opportunities for the public to engage with what KDOT is working on, hear from the community and address concerns.
