Traffic Engineering

The Bureau of Traffic Engineering is a bureau within the Division of Engineering and Design. This bureau is composed of two sections: Traffic Engineering (Traffic Studies, Traffic Signals, Pavement Markings, Lighting, and Intersection Projects) and Signing (Permanent Signing and Traffic Control). The bureau plays a vital role within KDOT focusing on efforts to reduce fatal/injury crashes and using traffic control devices to contribute to the development of a safe and efficient highway system for all users.

Traffic Engineering Section

The Traffic Unit is headed by the State Traffic Engineer, Donna Lee. This section provides administrative and design functions related to traffic engineering: designs and develops intersection improvements, traffic signal, lighting, and pavement marking plans; performs traffic studies to develop recommendations to improve safety; administers federal and state aid funds to cities; and provides assistance and advice to district/area, other KDOT bureaus, cities, counties, and consultants.
